Is It Important for You to Know Reading Strategies on the TOEFL?

 By: TOEFL consultant

Every section on the TOEFL needs lots of strategies students have to master. Four steps here may help you.

1.Preview

You should read the reading as quickly as possible. Focusing on an impression of the topic instead of specific information is important. Three points you really have to consider are to read the title and headings, the first sentence of the passage, and the last sentence of the passage.

2.Read for meaning of the text

Like driving a car is one of the good examples. To read faster, you should read phrase by phrase, not word by word, and then you have to catch the ideas that the text means.

3.Contexts

The context involving a sentence, paragraph, or passage helps you predict about the meaning, so learning basic vocabulary and new words in the context is helpful.

4.Inferences

A reading passage sometimes shows the direct statement. But, in general, the author did not state it directly, so you truly have to know the evidence in order to make an inference and figure the conclusions out.
